Home / General Clothing / Shoes / The Evolution of Color Block Style

I’ve been reading around the fashion mags that there is a “new” trend: color block style.  How can this style be new when it has been around for almost a century!  If you don’t know what color block is, it’s when you have a piece with huge geometric sections of one or several colors. It all started in the 1920s with artist Piet Mondrian.

Then in the 1960s, Yves Saint Laurent introduced the color block dress, most certainly inspired by Mondrian’s work.

Next, it appeared in the bold bright 1980s. Just check out these color block flats!

You thought those shoes were outrageous. Check out these early 1990s Versace color block boots! (oh yeah, color block style was popular in the 90s too).

And here we are again. It’s the 2010s and the color block trend is upon us, arguably much cuter this time around, but who knows what fashion bloggers will be saying 20 years from now! haha.
