No fashion post today. I’m out getting ready for fireworks! Hope you all enjoy the holiday.

En Vacances

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

No, I’m not really going on vacation, unless you count spending ten weeks this summer at my parents while I study 8-10 hours a day for the bar exam! But I can pretend or live vicariously through you.

Join the No Tan Pledge

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

**Please excuse me while I preach from my soapbox for this post.**

Social beauty standards are strange if you really think about them.  And dangerous too.  In Asian countries, white skin is considered beautiful because they associate tans with lower class field workers.  To achieve a porcelain physique, girls use unsafe and illegal products to bleach the color from their skin, despite the risk of permanent and disfiguring results. Doesn’t that sound crazy? Well, we’re crazy over here too.

In Western culture, tanned skin is considered beautiful. Since the days of Coco Chanel, a “healthy glow” was seen as the side effect of living a luxurious and leisurely lifestyle despite the fact that sun damage causes wrinkles, sunspots, and cancer.  We participate in a $5 billion tanning industry and purposefully expose our skin to carcinogens from tanning beds.

Take a Dip

Sure, sure, bikinis are great, but have you ever thought about getting a onesie? This one from Nasty Gal is so chic and the v-shaped pattern will have a nice slimming effect.

Fashionable Travel Tips

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

So you’re going away on vacation. Maybe to the beach for a weekend, camping for the summer, or travelling around Europe for a year (gosh, I wish!). Trouble is, you want to take so much… but your bag is only so small. Here are some tips for packing light, but also being fashionable while you’re away!

Tip #1: Skimp on the toiletries

You really don’t need your entire make-up bag, straightener and half dozen hair styling products for a weekend away or a month in the middle of nowhere (plus if you’re staying in a hotel, they’ll probably supply sample-size body wash and shampoo). Why not try buying some small containers, like these Airborne Refillables, from My Tagalongs, for short trips (if you’re going on a plane with just carry-on bag, you must have your liquids under a certain size – check out the airline regulations before you pack):
