Following is an excerpt from an interview with dress designer Maria Karicas where she provides some prom dress advice. Maria is one of the designers for the popular Clarisse line of dresses. She studied at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City.

Interviewer: What advice would you give to a young woman on how to go about selecting the “right” prom dress?

Maria: I would tell her to go with something she likes, or something that one of her favorite stars or musicians has been wearing, as long as it works for her. Basically don’t just pick whatever is hot, pick something that appeals to you.

This year’s Cherry Blossom festival turned out much better than last year’s.  I managed to forgo any similar catastrophes and instead went to the Cherry Blossom Party at Betsey Johnson’s Georgetown store. I arrived as they were setting up and got a peek at their springtime collection.

Their oh-so-lucky employees along with Miss DC got all gussied up in Betsey Johnson garb for the event. Could you imagine having the store as your dress up closet? So fun!

Forever 21 seems to have quietly launched their 2011 prom collection. Sticking with what they do best, Forever 21 has some super cute and very affordable dresses. In fact, there isn’t one over $33!
