Biker Chick

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Boise has some amazing trails and paths to bike and I’ve been taking advantage of it. When I was an undergrad at UC Santa Barbara, my bike was my only mode of transportation for a few years. Can you imagine? Rain or shine. I remember a few days in the winter where the paths were so flooded that ducks were swimming on it! So,since I have bikes on my mind, here is a bike inspired post.

A Minimalist’s Makeup Guide

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

I never seem to have enough time in the mornings to get all made up and I never have the energy in the evening to take all my makeup off.  I just can’t do the foundation, powder, blush, etc routine.  Plus, I don’t have the funds to buy a ton of fancy makeup.  Instead, I have developed a four step makeup routine that is quick, cheap, and effective.

Join the No Tan Pledge

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

**Please excuse me while I preach from my soapbox for this post.**

Social beauty standards are strange if you really think about them.  And dangerous too.  In Asian countries, white skin is considered beautiful because they associate tans with lower class field workers.  To achieve a porcelain physique, girls use unsafe and illegal products to bleach the color from their skin, despite the risk of permanent and disfiguring results. Doesn’t that sound crazy? Well, we’re crazy over here too.

In Western culture, tanned skin is considered beautiful. Since the days of Coco Chanel, a “healthy glow” was seen as the side effect of living a luxurious and leisurely lifestyle despite the fact that sun damage causes wrinkles, sunspots, and cancer.  We participate in a $5 billion tanning industry and purposefully expose our skin to carcinogens from tanning beds.

Airbrush Makeup – Would You Try It?

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

The handful of times I’ve paid a pro to do my makeup, they used an airbrush machine and it looked amazing. The result was what foundation commercials always promise but never seem to deliver – even, flawless skin.   Well, there’s a new airbrush machine on the market called Airbase and I’m dying to try it!

Spring (fashion) Forward

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Spring is just around the corner, Mafiettes! Weather allowing, it’s time to start thinking about wardrobe innovations to transition smoothly and fashionably into the new season.

According to The Skinny, floral and animal prints will come into play once more during this year’s spring season. Dakota Fanning wore a leopard-print dress for the December Teen Vogue, and a similar version of it is now available at Forever 21 in its resort collection.
