Having trouble finding a prom dress? You might be going in the wrong direction, so let’s start at the beginning and figure out your body type.

You’ve got curves in all the right places, which you can accentuate with a tight waist. Look for corset top dresses, A-line, and princess cut dresses.

You’re (how shall we say it?) well endowed and have little hips. You can wear almost anything as long as it is tight in the waist. Maxi, corset, A-line, and princess cut will all look great on you. Avoid empire cuts and detailed necklines and you’ll be fine.

You’ve got gorgeous curves with most of ‘em on the bottom half of your body.  Look for dresses with details up top to help balance out your body. Empire, A-line and any flowy skirt will look flattering on you.

You’ve got less curves than the other girls. Try to find a dress with ruffles, ruching, and ornate details. All this will help fill out your figure.

I wish there had been guides like this when I was in high school. I had to settle for the same generic fashion magazine articles that were never really helpful at the end of the day.
