How to Walk in Heels

October 20th, 2009 | Posted by

While at DC Fashion Week, I noticed lots of fashionable girls who completely ruined their look by walking awkwardly in their heels. There is nothing chic about looking unsteady or unsure of yourself as you walk.  But it’s not like this should come naturally…there is nothing natural about heels like these!

Here are a few tips I’ve learned that might be helpful:

1. Use gel inserts. Set yourself up for success! It’s easier to walk around when your feet have nice comfy cushions under them.

2. Stand up straight and put your weight back on your heels. Hunching over will cause you to leaning forward and put your weight on the balls of your feet, which will lead to some major foot pain.

3.Take short even strides, stepping heel toe. This will help you stay balanced and confident when you walk. Stepping toe heel will cause you to slouch over and shuffle your feet, giving you the “I don’t know how to walk in heels” walk.

4. If you hate heels, don’t wear them. Don’t follow trends just because they are trends. Wearing flats does not make you any less stylish!

Do you ladies have any other tips?

  1. First off, those shoes are GORGEOUS! :D

Not really a tip per se, but a story. There’s a girl I know who tries to wear heels but ends up putting her feet down FLAT? Which I find incredibly odd aha. I’d suggest if people don’t ever wear heels to try smaller ones first, then higher ones – because otherwise they have no chance really x)

I, personally, wear heels a lot of the time, so I think I’ve just about got the hang of it ;)

  2. Great tips! I think I am going to try the gel idea!
