I Hate Velvet
August 9th, 2009 | Posted by Queen BeeWhy oh why is velvet making a comeback?
Velvet is thick and icky and doesn’t even look good on these models.
I mean, look at this! Would you wear this dress?
And the only thing worse than velvet? Crushed velvet, of course!
In fact, the only velvet I like is red velvet cupcakes.
Yummy.
So, what do you think about the resurgence of velvet? Am I being to harsh?

I have a friend who has a really odd fear of velvet xD She HATES the feel of it or anything like it x)
I don’t mind it too much, but those dresses (& skirt) don’t really look fabulous xD I can’t say I wear it myself, but it probably looks alright on some people xD
While you might be partially correct, those dresses are Hideous!
I’d totally wear a dark purple velvet mini skirt that was form fitting.
Now I want one.. If only I could sew!
The problem with velvet is that it looks best if the nap of the fabric is moving up. It catches the light and gives the fabric depth. Unfortunately, when you place your hands on the garment when you’re wearing it, it just feels yucky. It would feel a lot better if the nap was moving down. What further complicates things is when cheap and stupid manufacturers don’t realize there is a nap at all and mix up the pieces when they cut it out.
Interesting that you commented on this old post because I just found a velvet dress that I actually like. Tres cher though.
